University of karachi - Exposure Visit

Youth Empowerment For Engaged Citizenship - University of karachi

Shehri-Citizens for a Better Environment (Shehri-CBE) successfully arranged an exposure visit for students from the Department of Public Administration, University of Karachi, to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) as part of the project “Youth Empowerment for Engaged Citizenship”.

The Exposure Visit took place on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm. The visit location was the PMD Complex off University Road, Gulistan-e-Johar, Karachi. The PMD is the national organization responsible for weather forecasting, climate monitoring, and research on atmospheric sciences.

This visit was a key component of the “Youth Empowerment for Engaged Citizenship” project, which aims to provide university students with first-hand experience of how public institutions function. By engaging with institutional representatives, students gain practical insights into the workings and challenges of governance. Approximately 35 to 40 students from the Department of Public Administration were expected to attend.

Visit Highlights at PMD

During the visit, students had the opportunity to:

  • Gain knowledge about PMD’s operations and forecasting techniques.

  • Learn about the role PMD plays in disaster management and public safety.

The overall aim of the exposure visit was to advance the project’s broader goals: promoting civic awareness, strengthening understanding of public institutions, and preparing young people to become informed and engaged citizens. This hands-on experience helped bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world governance.
