Youth Empowerment For Engaged Citizenship - MITE

The Millennium Institute of Technology & Entrepreneurship (MiTE), in collaboration with the Department of Business & Management Sciences, hosted a highly engaging panel discussion under the banner of the “Youth Empowerment for Engaged Citizenship” initiative. Held on June 19, 2025, the event aimed to inspire and educate university students about their critical role in public policy, civic engagement, and urban governance. The session began with an interactive learning activity where students explored the structure and responsibilities of the Executive Branch of Government and worked in groups on real-world governance challenges. Facilitated by urban planning expert Mumtaz Ali, this session encouraged creative thinking and collaborative problem-solving.

The event culminated in a powerful panel discussion featuring key voices from Karachi’s civic and administrative landscape. Esteemed panelists included Mr. Tariq Ali Nizamani, Managing Director of the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB); Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission; Mr. Shahid Jatoi, Information Commissioner at the Sindh Information Commission; Mr. Masood Alam, Project Coordinator for the Competitive & Livable City of Karachi (CLICK) project; and Mr. Amjad Rafi, DSP Traffic, Karachi. These distinguished speakers shared their professional experiences, addressed challenges in service delivery, and emphasized the importance of youth participation in public sector development. The discussion bridged theory and practice, empowering students to become informed, proactive citizens capable of contributing to inclusive, transparent, and sustainable urban governance.
