Orientation Workshop at Shah Abdul Latif University

Youth Empowerment For Engaged Citizenship - Shah Abdul Latif University

The Orientation Workshop on “Youth Empowerment for Engaged Citizenship” was successfully conducted on 10 February 2026 at the Students Society Centre, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, under the Democracy Lab: Incubator for Civic Action initiative by Citizens for a Better Environment (Shehri-CBE). Founded in 1988 in Karachi, Shehri-CBE had been actively working on civic advocacy, environmental protection, governance reforms, urban mobility, and climate action. The workshop aimed to empower university students with practical knowledge of civic engagement, grassroots governance, and public policy participation. The program began with participant registration followed by a welcome address by Dr. Ali Raza Lashari, while Ahmed Hussain Mahar introduced the initiative and Farhan Anwar delivered the project orientation on “Empowering Youth for Engaged Citizenship.” An interactive conversation with Union Council representatives, including Mashqoor Khaskeli, Muhammad Ashraf Kandhro, and youth leader Adil Khushk, provided students with insights into local governance and community leadership. During the working group session, students collaboratively identified civic challenges within selected Union Councils and explored practical solutions with guidance from mentors. The session concluded with a summary, future action plan, vote of thanks, and lunch, marking the beginning of a broader initiative designed to help students research civic issues, engage with community stakeholders, and develop community-driven solutions that strengthen democratic participation and youth leadership.
