On 20 April 2026, Shehri – Citizens for a Better Environment (Shehri-CBE) successfully organized a Capacity Building Workshop under the “Youth Empowerment for Engaged Citizenship” initiative as part of Component-3: Youth for Democracy – Civic Education and National Governance Engagement. The workshop took place at the Students Society Centre, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, bringing together undergraduate students to strengthen their understanding of civic education, democratic governance, and field research practices.
The event featured a series of interactive sessions delivered by academics, governance experts, and Shehri-CBE representatives. Following the welcome address and programme introduction, participating students shared progress updates on their research projects, including the selection of Union Councils, formulation of research questions, and development of research methodologies. These sessions encouraged collaboration while providing valuable guidance for the next stages of their civic research initiatives.
Participants also attended sessions on Pakistan’s governance and administrative structure, fundamental rights guaranteed under the Constitution, and the practical application of civic education. A Reading Clubs activity encouraged students to examine constitutional rights in groups, followed by engaging discussions on the challenges of implementing these rights in contemporary society.
A key highlight of the workshop was the comprehensive training on field research ethics and methodology, which introduced participants to secondary research, research ethics, field observations, in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and survey research. Students concluded the workshop by preparing research proposals under the mentorship of the project team, enabling them to apply their learning to real-world civic issues.
The workshop formed part of the broader Youth Empowerment for Engaged Citizenship programme, which aims to equip young people with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to actively participate in democratic processes and community development. By combining classroom learning with practical research and civic engagement activities, the initiative continued to foster informed, responsible, and engaged citizens capable of contributing to better governance and sustainable social change in Pakistan.
