On 10 August 2026, Shehri – Citizens for a Better Environment (Shehri-CBE) successfully conducted a Capacity-Building Workshop titled “The Role of Youth in Strengthening Democracy and Good Governance” at the Students’ Societies Centre, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur. The workshop was organized under Component 3: Youth for Democracy – Civic Education and National Governance Engagement, as part of the broader Youth Empowerment for Engaged Citizenship initiative.
The workshop focused on strengthening undergraduate students’ understanding of democracy, governance, politics, and civic participation. It provided participants with an opportunity to reflect on their previous learning and explore the important role young people can play in strengthening democratic institutions and promoting good governance.
The session began with a welcome address by Dr. Ali Raza Lashari, Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Students’ Societies Centre, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur. This was followed by a reflection and review of previous workshops by Sarwar Khalid of Shehri-CBE.
Prof. Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Khushk, Vice Chancellor of Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, also attended the workshop. He appreciated the initiative and emphasized the important role of universities in nurturing responsible, informed, and active citizens. He stressed the need to strengthen civic and democratic education through academic and co-curricular activities.

A key learning session, led by Ahmed Hussain Mahar, Moderator at Shehri-CBE, explored the concepts of democracy, governance, and politics. Participants also discussed the importance of voting, voting as a constitutional right in Pakistan, and the potential impact of youth participation and voting on Pakistan’s elections.
The workshop also included content-based activities and group-work presentations, allowing students to apply the concepts discussed during the sessions and share their perspectives. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks and closing remarks, followed by lunch.
The workshop formed part of Shehri-CBE’s Youth Empowerment for Engaged Citizenship initiative, which focuses on developing young people’s capacity for informed civic engagement, democratic participation, and active citizenship. Through the Youth for Democracy component, the initiative provides students with opportunities to develop civic competencies, understand governance processes, nurture democratic values, and participate meaningfully in civic life.
