As part of the Youth Empowerment for Engaged Citizenship project, Shehri-Citizens for a Better Environment (Shehri-CBE) organized an exposure visit for students of Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, to the District Council Sukkur on 10 September 2026. The visit formed part of the project’s experiential learning activities, which aimed to strengthen young people’s understanding of civic institutions, local governance, and public service delivery.
The visit provided students with an opportunity to connect classroom learning with the practical functioning of local government. Through briefings and discussions with elected representatives and government officials, students gained insight into the mandate, responsibilities, and administrative functions of the District Council Sukkur.
The programme commenced with an introduction to the purpose of the visit, followed by a briefing on the history of District Council Sukkur by Akhtar Khan Mahar, Vice Chairman. Zafar Iqbal Mughal, Chief Officer, District Council Sukkur, subsequently explained the functions and responsibilities of the District Council, including its role in district-level development planning and the provision of essential public services.
Students also participated in a meeting with elected representatives and relevant officials, including Sardar Tariq Khan Pahanwar, Chairman Finance Committee; Mumtaz Ali, Council Officer; Advocate Yasmin Chachar, Member District Council; and officials from the Development and Tax Department. These interactions allowed students to learn more about local decision-making, development priorities, and the ways in which public institutions addressed community needs.

A briefing on District Council projects was also conducted by the Chief Officer, followed by a question-and-answer session. The discussion encouraged students to ask questions, exchange ideas, and develop a deeper understanding of the relationship between local government institutions and the communities they served.
The visit concluded with closing remarks by Prof. Dr. Mujeeb Rehman, Head of the Department of Media and Studies, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, followed by group photographs. Students then visited a project site and participated in a boat ride before departing for Shah Abdul Latif University.
The exposure visit helped students gain first-hand knowledge of local governance and public administration while reinforcing the importance of civic responsibility, informed participation, and engaged citizenship.
