Youth Empowerment For Engaged Citizenship - University of Karachi
A Knowledge Workshop titled “Youth Empowerment for Engaged Citizenship (Voices of Democracy)” was held on 17 February 2026 at the Department of Mass Communication, University of Karachi. The workshop was organized by Citizens for a Better Environment (Shehri-CBE) to strengthen students’ skills in civic research, media storytelling, and community engagement.
The session began with an introductory briefing by Farhan Anwar, Project Manager, and Hawwa Fazal, Project Consultant, who reviewed the progress of the project and outlined the objectives of the workshop. Students then participated in a working group session moderated by researcher and documentary filmmaker Masooma Rehan, focusing on responsible civic research and translating field findings into impactful media narratives.
The workshop covered key topics such as community engagement and ethics, effective interviewing techniques, turning research into compelling stories, and selecting the right media format to communicate civic issues. The program concluded with a wrap-up session outlining future plans for the Voices of Democracy fellowship, encouraging students to apply their research in civic journalism and digital storytelling projects.
