On October 28, 2025, Citizens for a Better Environment (Shehri-CBE) conducted an exposure visit for students from the Millennium Institute of Technology & Entrepreneurship (MITE) to the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Head Office. This initiative was a core component of the “Youth Empowerment for Engaged Citizenship” project, which aimed to provide students with first-hand experience of public institutional functions and decision-making processes.
Event Overview
Participants: Approximately 45 students from MITE University participated in the visit.
Objective: The visit sought to bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world governance by engaging students with elected officials and civil servants.
Host Organization: Shehri-CBE, a non-governmental organization established in 1988, facilitated the program to enhance students’ understanding of local governance and public accountability.
Itinerary and Key Activities
The visit took place from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm and included a comprehensive tour of the municipal authority’s headquarters.
Educational Briefings: Students gathered at the MITE University reception before arriving at the KMC Head Office for an introduction at the City Institute of Image Management (CIIM). They received a briefing on the history and functions of the Local Government system in the City Council Hall.
Institutional Tours: The itinerary included visits to several critical departments, including:

The City Council and the Land Department.
The historic Clock Tower.
Direct Engagement: Students had the opportunity to meet with the Mayor or Deputy Mayor of Karachi, followed by a group photo session.
Conclusion: The program concluded with lunch at 1:40 pm before the students departed for the university.

The visit provided practical insights into how KMC manages urban infrastructure, public services, and city development. By touring the Assembly Hall and engaging in discussions with senior officials, students gained a deeper understanding of the mandate and structure of Karachi’s main municipal authority.
