MITE - Exposure Visit

Youth Empowerment For Engaged Citizenship - MITE

On October 17, 2025, Citizens for a Better Environment (Shehri-CBE) conducted an exposure visit for students from the Millennium Institute of Technology & Entrepreneurship (MiTE) to the Raana Liaquat Craftsmen’s Colony (RLCC) in Shah Faisal Colony. This event was part of the “Youth Empowerment for Engaged Citizenship” project, which sought to build youth capacity through informed civic activism.

Event Overview

  • Participants: The visiting group consisted of approximately 50 students and 6 project team members.

  • Objective: The visit aimed to provide students with practical insights into how non-governmental organizations empower marginalized communities and deliver essential services.

  • Host Organization: Shehri-CBE, a non-political NGO established in 1988, organized the visit to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world governance.

Itinerary and Key Activities

The visit took place between 9:30 am and 12:00 pm and included a comprehensive tour of RLCC’s multi-faceted facilities.

  • Orientation: After gathering at the MiTE University main gate, students arrived at the RLCC office for an initial introduction.

  • Institutional Briefing: Zareen Majeed, Head of the Livelihoods Department at RLCC, provided a briefing on the organization’s working model and operations.

  • Facility Tours: Students visited several key departments to observe service delivery firsthand, including:

    • The school and computer training facilities.

    • The clinic and mental health counseling center.

    • The vocational training center and beautician/parlor center.

    • The daycare and the livelihoods department.

Conclusion: The program ended with group photographs and refreshments served by Shehri-CBE before students departed for the university.

Educational Impact

The exposure visit allowed students to explore the concept of the social contract and understand the role of civil society in governance and service delivery. By engaging with institutional representatives, the students gained a better understanding of how public and non-governmental institutions function to support fundamental rights and socio-political mobilization.
