Youth Empowerment For Engaged Citizenship - Concluding Event

Shehri-Citizens for a Better Environment (Shehri-CBE) held a concluding workshop to mark the completion of the “Youth Empowerment for Engaged Citizenship” project. The initiative established a framework for higher education institutes, including the University of Karachi, Habib University, and the Millennium Institute of Technology & Entrepreneurship (MiTE), to incorporate civic education and social mobilization into academic spaces.

  • Student Research: University groups presented research on critical local issues, including air pollution in Karachi, the socio-economic impacts of the Thar Coal Project, and the challenges of informal high-rise housing.

Afternoon Session: Presentations and Recognition

The afternoon session shared project outcomes and recognized student achievements:

  • Opening Remarks: Amber Alibhai, General Secretary of Shehri-CBE, delivered the welcome address.

  • Academic Collaboration: Representatives from MiTE and the University of Karachi shared their views on the collaboration between the project and academic institutions.

  • Project Documentation: A video documentary was screened to capture the experiences and discoveries made during the project’s execution.

  • Assessments: Project Manager Farhan Anwar presented a summary of the project’s work, assessments, and the proposed way forward.

  • Panel Discussion: A panel titled “Youth as Enablers of a more Livable Tomorrow” featured game-changing youth speakers who discussed their roles in social change.

  • Awards and Closing: Cash awards were distributed to students for their field research-based Action Plans. The event concluded with remarks from economist Dr. Kaiser Bengali.
