Youth Empowerment For Engaged Citizenship - Habib University

The Knowledge Workshop on Youth Empowerment for Engaged Citizenship was successfully held on June 27, 2025, at Habib University, in collaboration with the Social Development & Policy Program, School of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences (AHSS). This transformative event brought together young students and key policy experts to foster awareness and active engagement in urban governance and civic responsibility. The workshop opened with an interactive Learning Group session, moderated by Mumtaz Ali, an expert in urban planning and development, where students explored the structure and functioning of the Executive Branch of Government. Through collaborative tasks, they reflected on real-life policy challenges and proposed inclusive solutions.The Millennium Institute of Technology & Entrepreneurship (MiTE), in collaboration with the Department of Business & Management Sciences, hosted a highly engaging panel discussion under the banner of the “Youth Empowerment for Engaged Citizenship” initiative. Held on June 19, 2025, the event aimed to inspire and educate university students about their critical role in public policy, civic engagement, and urban governance. The session began with an interactive learning activity where students explored the structure and responsibilities of the Executive Branch of Government and worked in groups on real-world governance challenges. Facilitated by urban planning expert Mumtaz Ali, this session encouraged creative thinking and collaborative problem-solving.

The day culminated in a vibrant Expert Panel Discussion featuring a distinguished lineup of speakers: Sajida Qazi, Chief Foreign Aid, Planning & Development Department, Government of Sindh; Kanwal Bhutto, Additional Secretary, Local Government, Government of Sindh; Tariq Ali Nizamani, Managing Director, Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB); Masood Alam, Project Coordinator, CLICK Project; and Irfan Allahwala, Chairman, Union Council 2, Chanesar Town Municipal Corporation. Moderated by Alisha Ghayas and Alyzeh Miqdad of Habib University’s Social Development & Policy Program, the discussion offered rich insights into the everyday workings, challenges, and responsibilities of civic institutions. The session underscored the importance of empowering youth with the knowledge, confidence, and tools needed to engage meaningfully with public service systems, paving the way for a more inclusive and participatory urban future.
